
4 Delicious Hot Chocolate Recipes You Must Try!

Are you craving a hot chocolate? Wanting an alternative to tea or coffee? Well, here in the UK, we are currently experiencing the good old British weather – sun, wind and rain – which couldn’t happen all in one day! Therefore, cosy days in are frequent, so plenty of days to try different variations of hot drinks, including hot chocolate.

So in today’s blog, I thought I would do the hard work for you and find the easiest hot chocolate recipes that won’t take you too long to make for a delicious hot chocolate brew! The following hot chocolate recipes are for true chocolate lovers. They are quick and easy, and taste so much better than traditional cocoa powder.
Here’s a little tip: Alway make sure to have chocolate in your cupboards, so you’ll be able to make a simple hot chocolate recipe day or night.
Classic “Real” Hot Chocolate
- 250ml (1 cup) Whole Milk
- 35g 60 % dark chocolate
- 1 tsp brown sugar (Optional for taste)
- A pinch of sea salt (Optional for taste)
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract (Optional for taste)
Instructions
- You can either chop a chocolate bar into fine pieces or use chocolate chips; it really doesn’t matter as long as the chocolate melts quickly.
- Pour the milk into a saucepan and slowly heat it over medium-low. Once the milk is hot, add in the chocolate. (Don’t over-boil the milk, it just needs to be drinkable.)
- Whisk all the ingredients together constantly, until the chocolate has fully melted and the mixture becomes glossy and smooth.
- Serve immediately by pouring into a mug, and lastly add whipped cream and marshmallows for the topping.
Creamy White Hot Chocolate
- 2 Cups Whole Milk
- 142g White Chocolate
- 1/2 Cup Double Cream
- 1tsp Vanilla Extract
- Pinch of Salt
Instructions
- Heat the milk in a saucepan over a medium to low heat. (Make sure not to over-boil the milk)
- In the meantime, finely chop the white chocolate, or use white chocolate chips; either works as long as they melt quickly.
- Combine all the ingredients and whisk until the chocolate has fully melted and becomes smooth.
- For the best taste, serve immediately and pour into a mug. Adding whipped cream and marshmallow as a topping is optional.
French Hot Chocolate
- 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1 1/2 Cups Whole Milk
- 2 tsp Powdered Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Espresso Powder (Optional)
- 277g Bittersweet Chocolate – 70% or more (Finely Chopped)
- Whipped Cream
Instructions
- Over medium heat in a saucepan, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and espresso powder until small bubbles begin to appear along the edges. (Don’t allow the mixture to boil.)
- Once bubbles appear, remove it from the heat and stir in the chopped chocolate. Continue stirring until the chocolate is completely melted.
- The hot chocolate is best served warm, topped with lots of whipped cream.

Frozen Hot Chocolate
- 133g Semi-Sweet Chocolate (Chopped)
- 2 1/2 tsbp Granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp Unsweetened Coco Powder
- 1 1/2 Cups Milk
- 1-2 Cups Ice Cubes
- Pinch Salt
- Whipped Cream
Instructions
- Firstly, melt the chopped chocolate in a small microwave-proof bowl. Pop it into the microwave on half power for 20 seconds, then stir and then back into the microwave for 20 seconds and stir – do this until the chocolate is fully melted.
- Then stir in the sugar, cocoa powder and salt. Also, slowly stir in the 1/2 cup of milk and stir until the mixture is smooth.
- Once you’ve added the milk, you will then need to add the other dry ingredients into the same bowl: 2 1/2 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp cocoa powder and a pinch of salt.
- Now, add the mixture into a blender with the remaining 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of ice. Blend well until the mixture becomes smooth. You can add more ice if you prefer it to be thicker.
- For the best taste, serve immediately and top with whipped cream.
