Have You Heard Of A “Special Shower”? That Will Make Your Skin Feel Gorgeous And Give You A Guaranteed Confidence Boost.

Doesn’t it feel so great when you take that one shower that makes all your other showers feel plain and dull in comparison? The shower that makes you feel like you are a million bucks! The shower that makes you feel like a new person when you get out! Sometimes you are in such a rush in the mornings before work, that you don’t have time to think about having a calm and relaxing shower, you instead go into auto-pilot.

So by having a “special shower” at least once a week – for example: on your day off work – you can create a calm and relaxing shower that gives you a reset button that you can make in your own life.

So let’s jump into this blog post, where I’ll share the tips and products that have worked for me. Here’s to “special showers” to all!

Timing is everything!

In my experience, the ideal time to shower is in the afternoon or early evening. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, after your shower, you can unwind and enjoy your evening to the fullest. It’s like being on vacation – sunbathing in the morning, taking a midday nap, and then showering right before dinner. This relaxing energy is what I aim to channel. Secondly, this is the golden hour when you are most relaxed and ready for a peaceful night’s sleep. By taking a shower at this time, you can set the tone for the rest of your night, whether having dinner and watching Netflix or journaling on the sofa.

Exfoliate dry.

This might be where everyone’s routine changes though in general, it will stay the same. If you have any cleansing products or specialty masks then break them out! Presumably when you have turned the shower on and let it heat up.

First, I love to start my shower with a cleansing balm as it’s fantastic for getting rid of dirt, grime, makeup and build-up of moisturise. Also is excellent that I don’t have to wash my face in the sink, so getting to rinse it off in the shower is a treat.

Secondly, underarm mask. This isn’t essential and not everyone will want to use it. However, the main purpose of the product is to help make your pits less stinky. Also, the product will last forever, as you only need to use it once a week.

And thirdly, it’s an exfoliator. There are plenty of exfoliators on the market and if you’ve already found a product that you love, then try applying your exfoliator of choice while you’re still drying. You’ll be on the route to newborn baby skin!

Break out the dry brush.

I’d never heard of a dry brush until I stumbled upon it whilst I was doing a beauty online shopping order. But have heard that they are good for your skin – dry brushing helps drain the lymphatic system, as well as increasing circulation. There’s a variety of different dry brushes, ones that have loops for your hands to make it easier to use.

Shaving time.

It’s time to jump into the shower and shave. If shaving isn’t something you prefer, feel free to skip it. After rinsing everything off, you’ll be impressed by how soft your skin feels after brushing and exfoliating. Then, you can focus on shaving your legs before getting ready for the day.

If you’re looking for a reliable and cost-effective option, consider trying store-brand shaving razors. For a more long-term investment, a metal razor is a great choice as it can last forever. I don’t typically use shaving foam. Instead, I prefer to use Venus Sensitive Cleansing Gel, as feels like it moisturises my skin instead of drying my skin out.

Massage your shampoo in.

After exfoliating, masking, and shaving (or maybe just partially), it’s time to shampoo. I won’t suggest any specific shampoo products since you know your hair type and needs better than I do, so use whatever works for you. For an extra treat, consider adding a scalp brush to your shower routine.

I have hair that is both long and thick. I tried using a scalp brush once, but I found it to be more difficult to use than just washing my hair with my hands. Additionally, it caused my hair to become more tangled and harder to brush. If you are interested in trying a scalp brush, I would suggest only using one if you have fine, short hair that is no longer than just above your shoulder.

Conditioner (or a hair mask).

The familiar order or shampoo and conditioner. Again, you know your hair, so use your usual conditioner or treatment products – it makes the most sense.

If you are using a treatment, then this is a great time to apply it – you’ll be here for a while longer, but it will now have more time to work. You may be thinking “Should I stay in the shower or get out?”. I tend to just stay in the shower while the her mask is working, as your hair is already damp and you can then wash the rest of your body. Win, win!

Have a seriously good scrub.

Have you ever heard of a scrub cloth/mitt? It’s different from traditional body or hair scrubs that have tiny beads in them. I didn’t know about it either, but I have to say, it’s pretty effective. While it may not be as pleasant as being kissed by little puppies, you can feel it working. After using the scrub cloth all over your body, your skin will feel as smooth as a baby’s.

Shave (Yes, shave again!).

Yep, you have heard my right shave again before finishing up. You might be wondering, why shave again when you have shaved your usual areas. However, it can be frustrating when you step out of the shower, dry yourself off, and realize that you have missed a large patch of hair. By shaving twice, you reduce the chances of missing such a patch. Additionally, since you have already shaved other areas, your skin is now warm and open, making it more receptive to shaving thanks to all the preparation you have done.

Face cleanse & then rinse off.

Now onto the final step – your skincare routine. I alternate between using Olay face wash and St. Ives Apricot face scrub. I prefer a gentle scrub that can deeply exfoliate my skin. If you’re interested in skincare, I can recommend a variety of products tailored to different skin types.
