News that no one saw coming…as it has been recently revealed that Samantha Jones – the beating heart of Sex in the City – will be making an appearance in the second of the reboot, And Just Like That.
In an interview with Variety, Michael Patrick King [one of the And Just Like That’s show runners] seemingly confirmed that Samantha Jones will be making a return to the franchise. And after being asked if Carrie and Samantha’s characters will still be texting in season two, Michael responded “yes.”
Kim Cattrall, who originally played Samantha Jones who has previously made it clear that she doesn’t want to return to the franchise. Kim Cattrall also mentioned in an interview with Variety “it’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough[…] I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.” She later added, “This feels like an echo of the past…I loved [Samantha]. I loved her so, so much. It’s tough to competition. The original show is in all of our imaginations. But for me, it feels clean.
Sarah Jessica Parker, AKA Carrie Bradshaw, has also indicated that she wouldn’t be too chuffed to see Kim Catrall rejoin the cast.
In a Variety interview, SJP was asked how she’d feel about Kim reprising the role of Samantha, to which she responded, “I don’t think I would, because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared,” adding that she hasn’t “participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let [her] know.”
Previously, Michael Patrick King has also ruled out Kim returning to the show telling Variety, “Magically thinking, it’s great to have Samantha,” before noting, “I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattral ever appearing again.”
Doesn’t anyone else feel a little confused, RN? Oh well, no matter what capacity Samantha returns in – whether it’s more text or in her full Kim Cattrall glory, I really can’t wait to watch it all unfold…
