My Evening Routine

We often hear a lot of the time about important it is to have a morning routine to help you to start your day off on the right foot – to set you on the right path for success, but for me, I find that I have a good evening routine, that is what makes all the difference! Maybe the main reason why this is the case might have something to do with the fact that I’m never much of a morning person, instead, I’m much more of a night owl. But only you will know what will work best for YOU and your current stage of life.

Over the years my evening routine has changed, but my goal has always been to remember to take off my makeup properly each night – sometimes that doesn’t happen but it’s still a goal that I set myself, also I like to organise and be ready for the next day. I’m a little more relaxed and chilled out on my days off. So here’s my evening routine below…

1. Wash face/skin care

Over the last couple of years, I’ve decided I needed to start washing my face much earlier in the evening, just that wouldn’t be too tired or forget to spare some time to take care of my skin. When I was younger, I had a bad habit of always going to bed late and found myself being too tired to wash my face (to be honest the whole process can be lengthy?), so I ended up washing my face quickly and vowing that I’ll do better the next day. But I never managed to get around to it. So around 7 o’clock each night I head upstairs and wash off my make-up. It’s so much better than doing it 5 before I’m about to get into bed, beyond tired.

2. Lay out my clothes the night before

During the weekdays i get up super early in the morning (4:30am) to get ready for work, so i try to lay out my clothes the night before just so i’m scrambling around trying to find my jeans/top/jacket that i need.

3. Get ready for bed

Once I have washed off my make-up and laid out my clothes, I get ready for bed – put on my pyjamas, brush my hair and brush my teeth. Also knowing my personality, I know too well that I’ll squeeze in as much as possible before my goal ‘bedtime’ that I set myself, so I try to get all of the stuff that I want to get done, finished and out the stuff out of the way so i won’t stay up even later to do it.

4. Wind down for the night

At around 7:30 pm, I start to wind myself down for the night. This sometimes involves my folding some laundry and put away in my wardrobe – a task that I don’t mind doing as I can do it whilst watching tv or listening to a podcast. Other times I prefer to sit and just watch tv shows – this happens toward the end of the week, as I become much more tired earlier. I just alway try to do something that will help me to wind down and won’t make me feel restless or stop me from having a good night sleep.

5. Plug my phone away from where i’m sleeping

At 8 o’clock, I make sure to plug my phone somewhere other than on my next to my bed. It stops me from being tempted to waste time scrolling either the night or the next morning.

So that is a wrap with my evening routine, but do bear in mind that it doesn’t always go to plan – some nights I feel more tired than usual so I tend to go to bed a lot earlier. So this is a work in progress and that’s okay! There is no way I’m working towards perfection instead, I’m just after better habits and better all-around health.

I would love to know if you have anything special that you included within your evening routine? Or any good habits that help make it easier to get ready for the next day?
