Does anyone else find that they’re makeup always seem to slip off the face when you’re a little hot and sweaty? Tbh, we most probably can all agree that the only time when it’s okay for our face to feel slippery, is when we are fresh out of the shower…But the think i don’t highly rate is the sensation when i’m fully clothed and my face is slipper then a blowing alley!
Now that summer has finally arrived ‘well sort of’…come on, here in the UK we aren’t graced with a lot of hot, summery days, so when there’s a couple of lovely days of sunshine that’s when we can officially start to celebrate summer. But let’s get back to the important reason as to why you are here in the first place… How to stop your makeup from sweating off when your face is a hot mess? and How are you meant to appear professional whilst your mascara’s melting into your eyebrows?
Well, you might be happy to know that I have the answer to that one. It all starts with a decent concealer and it ends with a mattifying face mist. Let me give you a quick rundown…
Step 1. Less is more…Yes really it is
Are you peeling off multiple layers like it’s going out of fashion? Well, now might be the right time to apply the same theory to your face. Okay, so ultra heavy and long-wearing foundations might claim that they’re bulletproof, when really they are occlusive {block air flow}, comedogenic {clog pores} and then you’ve got mighty claustrophobic in the swealtering heat. Basically, sweating is inevitable and your foundation will most likely end up slipping off, so instead of fighting it, work with it.
Opt for a more lightweight layers [i.e. breathable foundations], alright it’s less long-wearing but it’s less likely to make you overheat in the first place. Or only wear long-wearing formula a little more sparingly.
Here’s a little tip: to even out pale-medium skin tones and add glow, is to use a face tan. But only apply this after you’ve taken all of your makeup off in the evening, plus make sure your blend it into your hairline and wash your hands after. Then in the morning you’ll wake up looking a bit more bronzy and get to skip extra coverage.
Step 2. Waterproof is the way foward
Smudgy textures might be a great look during the winter months, but not the one for summer. When it comes to lashes, brows and eyeshadow, opt for crisp waterproof formulas that won’t melt right off and instead actually stay put in the heat.
Step 3. Play around with the finish of your founation
Whether you prefer to stick with a foundation, then consider it’s finish. Dewy and sheeny textures may work well during spring, but on extremely sweaty day, try to opt for a slightly more matte {or semi-matte} finish. It’s inevitable that natural oil from your face wil help to add it’s own natural sheen, so it’s best to start with something a little less glossy and don’t end up looking shiny later on in the day.
Step 4. Step far away from the highlighter
Yes it’s ture that the sunshine helps to bring out the best in highlighters, by catching the light-reflective particles and making it glow. But too much can mean your end up looking like a disco ball on an already slippery-skinned day. Which is not a good look. It will probably slid off south anyways.
Step 5. A mattifying mist is going to be your best friend
There really isn’t anything quite like a refreshing mist on an extremely hot day. The mist will really help to clam redness, clammy cheeks and fraying tempers. You could also double up on the function and choose one that offers maffying and that really help to set your base in place to stop your makup from sweating off? You gotta love a multi-tasker!
