20 Ways That Can Help To Boost Our Mood
Do you ever wake up feeling grumpy, low on energy for no apparent reason? Of course, we can alway feeling super happy everyday and bad days do happen. Everyday stresses, a job interview didn’t got as well as you hoped or the coffee machine has broken in the office – we all know that sometimes life can really suck. Okay, we might be able to get rid of a horrible, stressful commute to work or an intolerable collegue, but we can have some sweet suggestions to boost our mood.
Having a bad day, here’s a get-happy checklist…
- Go for a walk – Go for a nice relaxing walk releases much-needed endorphins and is one of the best mindful activities – helping to find answers to your concerns as you have a conversation with yourself in your head. It could also improve your mood and calm you down.
- Write your feeling in a journal – It can very similar to a therapy session, as you can talk everything out by writing it down. Once you’ve written your first sentence, you’ll most probably find that the word will start to unravel your feelings, and might also make it a lot easier to find out what you’re truly upset about or what’s bothering you.
- Talk it out with someone – Family member, friends or a professional.
- Watch an inspiring video – From watching funny cat videos to inspiring documentaries are sure to improve your mood and boost your energy levels.
- Take some time out for yourself – Go to a coffee shop, a library or a local park.
- Listen to a happy song – Being pitch-perfect isn’t required.
- Spend quality time with your family pet – Playing, cuddling or just chilling with you best pal can help us to feel happier and less stressed.
- Notice the small miracles – Are you feeling like you are stuck? Appreciate the small wonders ~butterfly or a random act of kindness~ and have a more positive outlook on life.
- Do a spot of retail therapy – Who doesn’t like a little spot of retail therapy, whether buying new shoes, new clothes or running errands? Get out of the house and think about something else that isn’t about daily mundane things, it can turn your frown upside down.
- Do something nice for somebody else – Yep, it’s true. Being nice to others, like holding the door open for someone, can help us to feel nicer too.
- Exercise – Set time aside from your busy day to either do a yoga session, a run on the treadmill or a quick gym workout that can help to release endorphins – triggering a positive feeling in your body.
- Declutter – Even a short tidy-up and declutter can instantly make you feel much more organised and motivated to get stuff done and improve your mood.
- Meditate – Just sitting quietly and focusing on your breathing, can be a quick and effective way to chilly out and improve your outlook. Might even make you smarter.
- Light your favourite candle – The smell and flicker of the flame can help with relaxation.
- Put on an outfit that you like to wear – Digging through your wardrobe and trying on some of the clothes that you love, but don’t get to wear all that often, can instantly lift your mood and make you feel ready for the day ahead.
- Make sure you get a good night’s sleep – It’s recommended to get at least 8 hours of sleep per night, as while we sleep our bodies repair and renew themselves from the day, so we can’t wake up feeling refreshed and energised!
- Smile at a stranger – Doesn’t it make you feel so much better to know that if someone is or could be having a bad day, that you’ve may have just made a small, tiny difference to there life by making them smile for even just 5 seconds.
- Wake up a little earlier – Waking up 15 minutes earlier will give you extra time and you might have a more organised and productive day.
- Look through old photos – By looking through old photos can bring back happy memories and make you feel nostalgic ~ a great mood-booster!
- Eat something healthy – Okay so, an unhealthy snack or meal may look super tempting but unfortunately it’s not great for bodies and minds, where as it will thank you for eating at least one healthy meal that contains fruit and vegetables each day.
