Mental Health: 5 Reasons Why Is Self-Care So Important?
Making yourself the top priority is always as easy as you may think it will be. But making yourself the priority, can make you feel positive about yourself and boost your confidence, plus it’s good for your health. Through practising self-care can reduce anxiety, stress, depresssion and make us live a happier life.
I’ve put together 5 ways that can help you to practise self-care. Of course, stressful times will happen but it’s also important to have time to take care of yourself.
1. Realise Your Self-Worth
This is properly the first major step to practising and realising that you are worthy of having ‘me time’ and that you aren’t being selfish. Many of us are guilty of feeling guilty about having fun when we’re not working, but what you need to remind yourself is that everyone deserves time when they can switch off and relax.
2. Relaxation
Self-care might not be seen as an important thing to do, but it might be surprising to know that taking time out for yourself – to relax and switch off – it’s hugely important. Allow yourself to switch off after a busy day by trying out a 20/30 minute yoga session or get into bed and completely lose yourself in a book – forget all your worries about work and your daily stresses.
3. Eat Properly
Having a good balance of meals and avoiding skipping meals can increase your concentration and energy levels, you’ll also be getting the right vitamins and nutrients which can work wonders for your overall health
We are all guilty of quickly picking up a packet of crisps or skipping meals because we feel like we don’t have spare time, but that shouldn’t be a valued excuse and you shouldn’t just accept it, instead crave out time in your busy life. Remember, you need food for energy = be more productive and more organised = less stress.
4. Pamper Yourself
Be truthful to yourself for a minute, have you ever cancelled a hair or nail appointment because of a busy work schedule? Do you wear the same worn-out clothes because you’re too busy to shop for new clothes? Or can you remember the last time you lay in the bath for more than 10 minutes, as you need to tick off everythingon your to-do list for the day?
If this is you, then you need to stop doing this, instead, take time to pamper yourself as this is very important. Not only does it relax you, but it can also make us feel good about ourselves = like feeling more confident about we look on the outside, which will make us feel better on the inside as well.
Instead of working through your lunch break or making something that could have waited for a priority, don’t! Make your haircut appointment your priority because you deserve it and you’ll feel very glad that you make the decision.
5. When Work Gets Busy, Don’t Stop
`Feeling overloaded with work commitments? You are more than likely to cancel other plans to finish your work. But I would recommend not doing this. It’s so important to make time to meet up with friends & family, go to the gym and eat proper meals. Even if it’s tempting to clear out your diary, the long term can have a negative effect – you will burn out much quicker if you don’t take breaks. Also, you are more likely to get distracted, which can reduce the quality you put into things, including looking after yourself properly.
