How To Sick To Your January Goals 2025

At the start of the new year, many of us think of goals we would like to achieve throughout January or the entire year. The theme of your goal will of course depend on what your passion is, as well as what you would prefer to stay away from. I think it’s crucial to set goals to help you reassess your focus on elements that could enhance your life.

What is the purpose of setting goals?

Before setting goals, you might wonder how they can help you achieve what you want. Imagine getting into your car without knowing your destination. Once you determine the direction you want to go, you’ll likely start to feel a sense of freedom and enjoyment, as well as feeling more focused, motivated and purposeful!

Benefits of setting goals

  • Higher productivity.
  • Increase the speed of achieving your goal.
  • Gaining clarity about what you want.
  • Say goodbye to things that get in the way.

Ways to help you not forget your goals:

We all have good intentions at the start of the year of what we want our goals to be, however remembering what they are halfway through the year.. yeah that’s a different story!

  • Write down your goals in a notebook: Writing things down in a notebook can help your brain gain clarity. When you write down, ask yourself what you want out of this year and which direction you want to head.
  • Create a vision board: Make your vision come to life. The visual board can help create a visual image of what you want to achieve in the future, I can also help to articulate my goals visually.
  • Have categories for your goals: Some of your goals might be items or things that you want to achieve, e.g., gaining a qualification, gaining more experience, getting a new position at work, or saving up to buy a new car.
  • Create a track and reward system: Creating your goals and planning how you’ll be going about achieving them is just the first step, however designing a tracker [i.e. tick list or progress bar], can help to see your progression much more easily.

How to make it easier to stick to your goals?

To reach our goals, we need to use methods and processes that are right for us because the way someone else reaches their goal doesn’t mean that is going to be the right process for you to reach yours and that is okay! So here are a few methods that might help you achieve your goals and if they aren’t a right fit then that’s fine:

  • Lean into what works for you: There’s not just one method style for achieving individual goals that is going to be the right fit for every single person. Remember, we are all individuals and we all have individual goals and tasks that we want to accomplish! Which is great, as it would be extremely boring if we were all the same. So you need to lean into the method and process that is going to help you achieve your goals. So start by paying more attention to how your brain works – if you find it easier to do things digitally, then do it digitally [i.e. spreadsheets] but if you find it easier to put pen to paper then do it that way [i.e. pretty bullet journals].
  • Get accountable: I find it hard to complete tasks or achieve goals when I don’t have a deadline. Sometimes it’s good to have a little pressure that can help to get tasks completed or goals accomplished however, this does depend on how much accountability you will take on. You need to also be motivated in the project you want to take on otherwise, you will find it harder to achieve your goals. Also, have realistic timeframes for when you want to achieve your goals – it doesn’t matter whether it’s going to take you a week, 2 months, 6 months or a year, just as long as you achieve what you first set out to accomplishing, then that’s a good enough reason to keep carrying on.
