The month of January can be one of the most difficult months to have fun, especially when the excitement and build-up to christmas have disappeared and all we have now left is the cold weather and dark mornings and evenings, also not to mention your budget might be a little tighter and feels as though you don’t have the means to enjoy yourself. So here are 6 inexpensive ways to have fun this January.

invite your close friends or neighbour round fo a coffee

INVITE YOUR CLOSE FRIEND OR NEIGHBOUR ROUND FOR A COFFEE.

On a budget and going out for a coffee or even a slice of cake is off the cards, so why not invite a friend or neighbour around yours instead? – whether that inviting someone that you have got a chance to see in a while, someone who you’d like to get to know a little better, or someone who doesn’t a chance to socialise with people.

Pour coffee, tea or hot chocolate and plate up some cookies or slices of cake, and treat yourself and your friends or neighbour while enjoying their company.

BUY REDUCED ADVENT CALENDAR

Have a bit of fun and buy a reduced-priced advent calendar, you can open one of the windows every day or every other day if you fancy having the calendar lasting into February. It is also a great way to extend the feeling of December into January, as you can feel like there’s a little more to look forward too instead of just wishful thinking.

Take on a challenge

TAKE ON A CHALLENGE

Why not take on the dry January challenge and commit to a whole month without drinking booze? Feeling the need to cut back on drinking after having the constant excuse throughout the festive season, then January can be the perfect time to start fresh and wipe the slate clean. Missed the start of January, it doesn’t matter! All you need to do is commit to 31 days of no drinking at any time of the year. This challenge isn’t only a great way to improve your health but it could also help to change unhealthy coping habits and instead develop new healthier habits.

Another challenge that you could take on is Veganuar, which you can do any time of the year. It’s similar to Dry January but instead of giving up alcohol, you try a plant-based lifestyle for a month. Here’s a previous blog for 3 tasty veganuary snacks that you can try.

SEND LOVE ONES A THANK YOU CARD

The little things really do have the biggest impact, so why not unleash you creative juices and make some personalised ‘thank you’ cards to say a big thank you for you christmas present or you’ve have a December birthday like me, a thank you card for your birthday prezzies. They don’t have to be anything fancy, they could be super simple and just say ‘thank you’, but what is will tell people is how much you appraciate them and the gift that you received.

HAVE A CLEAN OUT OF YOUR WARDROBE

Are you finding it harder and harder to close your wardrobe doors but never have anything to wear? Well, why not start the year off by decluttering, getting ride of clothes or shoes that you know longer wear and organiser you remaining clothes collection.

Want to start the year downsizing and live a more minimalistic life, then decluttering your wardrobe is probably a good place to start. The easy way I find organising my wardrobe is to put everything into piles – keep, sell, donate and recycle.

make a reading list

MAKE A READING LIST

When it’s cold and dark outside or you just don’t feel like going out instead you want to have a lazy day, doesn’t mean you can’t be productive. Curling up on the sofa and getting invested in a book is a great way to spend a January afternoon – and picking up the right book can provide you with a welcome dose of motivation too!

So why not try and write up a reading list for this year – commit to getting through all those books that you’ve always intended to read but have never quite gotten around to reading? Then, when you don’t feel energetic or have the motivation to do anything cleaning or organising, you can always check the reading list, pick up a book and have a few productive hours where you are transported into another world. Books that you could add to you reading list.

Do you find January an exciting month? Do you have anything to add that hasn’t been mentioned, feel free to leave then in the comments…

Additionally, I recently brought home Bonnie who’s a 6-month-old Shih Tzu puppy that is super playful and completely adorable, and that didn’t make my life busy enough I also had two very boisterous 1-year-old guinea pigs called Echo and Enzo
