The Ideal Summer Skincare Tips That Will Protect Your Skin.
We know and love good hydrating skincare routines so that we can get that ultimate summer glow, but without it take a huge chunk of time out of your evening. So here is a summer skincare routine made easier. Sea, sun and happy-glowy skin pending!
As the summer months are just around the corner, there is a better time to refresh your routine for the warmer months.
Why does our skincare need to be different in summer or winter?
Throughout the year, your skins need will differ therefore, you’ll need a few small changes or give your skincare a complete refresh.
During winter months, your skin calls for more intense hydration and nourishment. In warmer and humid weather, your skin will produce more oil, so if you want to keep it soft and smooth, gently exfoliate, apply serum and SPF are all key ingredients to help keep your summer skin healthy.
What’s the most important step when it comes to summer skincare?
When it comes to taking care of your skin during the summer months, the most important step that must not be forgotten is SPF all the way, as this time of the year is when the sun is more intense, days are longer and your more likely to be outside therefore protecting your skin with a good SPF is the easiest and simplest way to include it into your everyday skincare routine.
Wearing SPF daily helps to protect your skin from UV damage which can dry out the skin and accelerate signs of ageing.
The perfect time to apply sunscreen is in the morning before applying any makeup but after cleansing. A little tip; if you want long-lasting protection, it’s important to keep reapplying sunscreen every couple of hours. SPF 50 is the best for protecting against the sun and UV rays. SPF isn’t just for the summer months, it should be worn all year round – as even in the winter UV rays are still out in force.
What does your skin need in the summer?
SPF isn’t the only thing your skin needs to stay healthy, another important thing is to keep hydrated. Of course, we sweat more and produce a lot of oils during the warmer, environmental dehydration like sun exposure, humid weather and air conditioning can all contribute to the loss of moisturise in the skin.
The first step for fresher and dewy, summer-ready skin is to use Hyaluronic Acid – I’ve perilously written a whole blog post on the benefit of using Hyaluronic Acid >> ‘Discover the wonders of hyaluronic acid and the amazing benefits it can offer.’
Another great thing about using Hyaluronic Acid is that it gives your skin long-lasting hydration without feeling greasy, thick or heavy on your skin. You can also combine it with other ingredients such as; Aloe Vera, which ensures that your skin feels smooth with hydration and keeps glowing.
The best summer skincare routine.
Here’s a little step-by-step guide on how to get healthy summer skin.
- Cleansing: Start your skincare routine by cleaning your face (use your normal face wash cleanser, which is okay), as long as you clean your skin in the morning, evening or night. Remember during the warmer months you will find that you sweat more, be outside more and will be applying a lot more SPF; therefore cleansing thoroughly is a no-brainer.
- Gently exfoliate your skin: Secondly, applying a gentle exfoliate twice a day – especially if you’re wearing makeup- can help to keep your skin feeling smooth, clean and ready for the next step. If your skin is prone to breakouts, try a clarifying lotion and one that contains salicylic acid as this will help to minimise excess oil and keep pores clear.
- Vitamins: There are still plenty of options if you want to use the targeted serum in the warmer months that contain Vitamin C for brightening and Vitamin A to help correct and prevent signs of ageing.
- Hydration: In order not to add too many products onto your skin, which causes the pores to become clogged, try an oil-free gel-cream moisturiser that also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera is a great addition to your summer skincare collection. Oil-free products can prevent pores from clogging but can help to re-balance excess oils on the skin, which usually stem from high humidity Moisturiser should be applied to your face and neck, morning, and night as well as whenever your skin needs it.
- SPF is a must: I won’t bore you with the details about why SPF is super important and must not be missed from your everyday skincare routine. So make sure you apply a generous amount all over your face and neck in the morning and then re-apply throughout the day – this is a good rule to follow!
- Here’s a bonus step – Hydrating mist!: Apply a little spitz on top of your already applied moisturiser anytime of the day and anywhere for an instant hydrating hit. Give your skin a little hydration boost after your skincare routine; either when you’re at your desk, in-flight or whenever you might be.
