Tips on how to reduce the shiny glow on your face on hot days

A natural glowy skin is something that everyone wants? However, not every glowing skin looks good, especially on a hot, sunny day.

There’s a big difference between an oily, sweaty glow and a highlighted glow on the face. Someone like myself who has natural oily skin, will know that our skin will feel sticky when in the elements on a hot, summer day.

During the hotter months – typically here in the UK, it’s usually a little in the year; so like August to at least late September. However, many people will experience much more sweat during hot temperatures, which is understandable. [A little fact: Seburm is something that your skin naturally produces and in warmer temperatures, it will make even more = possible further breakouts.] Of course, you won’t be able to fully solve the problem, but you can certainly control it to a certain extent. It won’t happen overnight, but you will notice a difference by following a regular skincare routine.

1. Salicylic Acid

Not only is Salicylic Acid good for your skin, but it’s also a must-have ingredient in your face cleanser. Plus it helps to break down the oil in your skin pores without causing your skin to become overdry and gently helps to remove dirt and bacteria = to a soft, smooth touch and appearance.

2. Exfoliate your skin regularly

Did you know that periodically exfoliating your skin can do wonders? Exfoliating can help to remove dead skin from the skin’s surface and extra oils = brighter-looking skin, prevent pores from clogging and lead to fewer breakouts. Although our skin naturally sheds sometimes it cannot do so, leading to dry, dull and patchy skin.

3. Never forget to apply sunscreen

Of course, we all know that wearing sunscreen is so important when fully protecting our skin and should always be worn throughout the year – even when it’s cold and raining. However, remembering to apply sunscreen isn’t always on the top of our to-do list; which can lead to UV rays impacting our skin surface, causing skin damage. But did you know that suffering from sunburn causes oils to be overly produced? On the other hand, sunscreen can not protect your skin it can also help with reducing acne symptoms as many products contain an ingredient called Zinc.

4. Stop! Don’t skip your moisturiser

Even if you have oily skin that doesn’t mean you need to skip the moisturiser. There are plenty of oily-free moisture creams that can keep a balance between oil and water in the skin. So whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin, hydration is still required for healthy, wrinkle-free, smooth, and supple skin.

It might be a little surprising to know that moisturisers shield our skin from various elements, build up a defence and help eliminate itchiness, unclog pores and control excess oiliness.

5. Toning is crucial

Toners are so underrated and are just as important as moisturising. Did you know that toners are good at helping to minimise the appearance of enlarged pores? – which gives you that polished appearance. A toner cleans your skin naturally and can remove excess oil, and dirt, plus it can help to rejuvenate and tighten your skin = to enhance levels of confidence!

6. Eat a proper diet

The most natural way to control your skin’s oil production is through having a balanced diet. Vitamin C is extremely important and helps to make your skin lustrous – hence way load of beauty skincare products add in the ingredient. Also, foods that contain a high content of water are equally as good for minimising the oil appearance. [Example: foods such as coconut water, cucumber, lemon, banana, broccoli, pulses, etc. = radiant skin].
